St. Mary's Tennis Club
History of St. Mary's Tennis Club.
St. Mary's Tennis Club was opened in May, 1948. Canon McManaway was the Rector at this time. He was a wonderfully capable manager. He was able to source funds from the state; parishioners and unlikely subscribers, and we can thank his efforts for the new Cox's Hall, the rectory and the tennis courts. He kept everyone on their toes.
The opening of the courts was a lovely day in May, 1948. Alan Houghton, Fred South, Rosie Baker, Mrs Eager and Patience Fawsitt had the honour of the first tennis game. Over the years, they had American Tournaments and Inter-Club matches (Patience Fawsittt, Aug 2008).
St. Mary's Summer Tennis Club is on Tuesday nights at 8.30 p.m. in Cox's Contact Person (087) 087) 9002142. Facepage - St Marys Tennis Club Dunmanway.
